It’s been a great week in Caetera

February 8, 2019/All about the business

Getting the second of the Caeteran Tales, Sixth Induction, published last month proved to be a long road–much longer than I had planned, but it’s out there, and I’m feeling great about that! Some of you may be wondering about that schedule because I originally intended to push them out back-to-back and keep my series as a “bingeable” series. I’ll talk a little more about that and what’s coming in Caetera in the next few months.

Caeteran Tales on Audible

OpenSeasonONAudible

If you weren’t aware, Open Season (The Caeteran Tales Book 1) is available on Audible. I have a wonderful voice actor, David Swanson. He did a fabulous job of bringing the characters to life and giving each a unique voice. Buy or listen to the sample here, or if you’d like to offer up a review of the book and performance, I have promo codes coming soon, but the numbers are limited.

I was surprised (and excited) to see that the audio version had 5 reviews. I’ve always said that anything with 3+ stars is an awesome review, and I recognize that tastes differ. Here are a couple of the reviews posted on Audible:

I’ve been back in contact with David this week in regards to production of Book 2. I’m excited that he has agreed to perform Sixth Induction as well.

We are becoming a Netflix society

I’ve said it before, but the trajectory of society is toward Netflix. Every person I know talks incessantly about the new series they’ve decided to binge on Netflix. This is getting to the extent that I’d argue the brand name is becoming another Kleenex. This is simply an observation, and I have no argument or position against the service.

The reason I bring this to light is that I’ve structured the stories within The Caeteran Tales to fit that model. I want them to be “bingeable.” I recently received a review on Amazon that was poetry to my eyes:

“I don’t read much fantasy. I find it too slow, and hard to immerse myself in a different world. This was not the case with Open Season. The switching between the time on Earth and the time in Caetera made it easy to understand and believe all of the magical elements. The plot moved quickly and I was so immersed in it that I finished the book in one night :).”

This embodies everything that I was going for in my series. My original fear when publishing in this manner was backlash about requiring a reader to delve into multiple books in order to complete the entire story. I’ll admit that I’ve been accused of this tactic as a money-making scheme as well. I could rebut the argument with a fairly pointed and persuasive essay, but I’ll reserve that commentary. My simple hope in my writing is that people read it or listen to it, connect with some of the characters, and enjoy the ride.

In final news…

About the next in the series: Cursed Talent

I am excited to announce that production is complete for the eBook and paperback versions of Cursed Talent. I have author copies on order and should have them in hand by the end of the month. The planned release date for Book 3 of The Caeteran Tales is…

This week has been full of editing work and publishing work. My inner creative is itching to get back to the Caetera too. Happy reading, writing, publishing, and marketing to everyone out there!
