What a crazy-busy week the last one has been. The reason why is not entirely clear, but sitting down to reflect on what I accomplished, I’m hopeful that it may become clear.

In the rear-view…

In writing news, I completed 3545 words in my WIP, the 4th of The Caeteran Tales, surpassing my goal by 1000+ words. I completed the blog post
Worldbuilding Across Genre: Fantasy. I wrote one book review (The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey), and I have my draft of the second, Prophecy by Cassandra Morgan, which will be published on Wednesday this week.

In editing, I completed the copy edit of Carrows Justice and a follow up review for document clean up. It’s back in the author’s hands for final review before moving into the proofreading phase. Additionally, I worked with two potential clients who reached out this week. Helping other authors is almost as much fun to me as writing.

Promotions fell a little short of the goals I set for myself last week. I did push forward with the next meetup, Marketing for Independent Publishers. However, I still need to follow up with the wonderful authors I met a little over a week ago. That will be priority this week.

The Kindle format for Sixth Induction went up for preorder last Sunday. My blog posts around world building were published on schedule as well as an edition of The Caeteran Herald regarding my upcoming release of Sixth Induction on Wednesday, January 23! If you haven’t preordered, you can do that here:

Looking forward…

1: Write
  • Write at least 3000 words on one of my major WIPs. I have two currently. The 4th of The Caeteran Tales and a collaborative YA Steampunk fantasy with my son. At least half should be on my YA work this week.
  • Write blog post: My blogging plan for this week is to turn my focus to the business side of being an author. I’ll work on two posts around marketing and publishing that will feature next week.
  • Write 1 book review: Titan Takedown by Annabelle Lewis. This will be published in February’s edition of Worldbuilding Across Genre when I focus on the genre: Contemporary Fiction.
  • Bonus: Read Palimpsest by Catherynne M. Valente. This is a book club treat, and I’ll be writing a review when done.
2: Edit
  • Editing Project Support: Carrows Justice by Annabelle Lewis.
  • Edit my 3rd book in the Caeteran Tales: Cursed Talent. I’m hoping to get some author copies of this in hand by early March.
  • I’m hoping to keep this one light this week and get a little more writing done.
3: Promote

This list isn’t changing. I need to focus a bit more here this week.

  • Blog about Marketing group
  • Send recap to Marketing Meetup Group
  • Connect with fellow authors
4: Publish
  • Kindle Format preparation and upload for Sixth Induction
  • Blog Posts: This one, an author interview on worldbuilding with Cassandra Morgan, a book review of Prophesy by Cassandra Morgan, and maybe one more as a surprise if I find the time.

To all you writers, authors, bloggers, and readers out there…I know it’s hard work, but it’s a passion. And if you never put it out there, no one will hear you. Goals matter–both in setting goals and reflection. How do you know you’re successful if you never measure. Goals are your measuring stick!

Cheers and happy writing!
