This year, Bronzewood Books, in collaboration with the authors of the What’s in a Name series, took a significant step towards making a global impact in literacy and education. We are delighted to share that our collective efforts have resulted in a generous donation of $302 to Room to Read and $142 to Book Aid International, both organizations committed to transforming the lives of millions of children in low-income countries through literacy and gender equality in education.
Our journey towards this contribution began a fairy tale name generator and developed into a shared vision among our authors. We believe in the power of words and the transformative impact that reading and education can have on individuals and communities. The What’s in a Name series, a project close to our hearts, not only brought together diverse narratives but also became a beacon for our philanthropic aspirations.
Quadruple the donation!
Moreover, we are incredibly grateful for the year-end opportunity to TRIPLE our donation as well as Bronzewood Books founder’s company for their donation matching policy, which doubled our initial contribution. This synergy of personal and corporate philanthropy amplified our impact, bringing the total support to $1208. It is heartening to see how collective efforts can lead to such a significant outcome.
This donation will help Room to Read to continue their vital work in two key areas. Firstly, their literacy program develops reading skills and a habit of reading among primary school children. This program includes establishing libraries, publishing local language children’s books, and training educators. Secondly, their girls’ education program supports girls to complete secondary school with the skills necessary to negotiate key life decisions. By focusing on these areas, Room to Read addresses the fundamental needs that can uplift communities from the cycle of poverty.
Global Charities
Since we are a global group of authors, we wanted to ensure we were making a difference globally.
This led us first to donating our profits from Once Upon a Name to Book Aid International. The decision to support Room to Read was agreed to by the authors participating in the Twice Upon a Name anthology. Room to Read‘s remarkable work across the world, focusing on literacy programs and girls’ education, aligns perfectly with our core values as authors. Their approach is holistic, sustainable, and, most importantly, community-focused, ensuring that the benefits of our contribution are far-reaching.
Room to Read’s year-end special, where donations are tripled, made our contribution even more potent. This initiative allowed us to maximize the impact of our donation, ensuring that every dollar contributed goes three times as far in supporting these crucial educational programs.
As we reflect on these achievements, it’s important to acknowledge that this is just the beginning. Our commitment to supporting literacy and education will continue to be a cornerstone of our work. We believe in the ripple effect of education and its ability to empower, uplift, and inspire.
