New Fantasy for April

April 14, 2021/Book Release

I promise I will get these out before the first of the month going forward. 🙂 That is as much of a promise to me as it is to my readers. I aim to support my fellow authors, indie, traditional, and hybrid alike. Being an author is a tough business, and anyone who has completed a book and all the post-drafting work that goes into it deserves a shoutout from every mountain top! Here’s my hoorah for April.

April 19 – Call of the Storm Sorcerer

The Serpentine Throne, #1

A murdered empress. A missing emperor. Mairynne Evangale called them Mother, Father.

The country mourns while rumors of unrest stir. The sorcery castes struggle for power and the casteless riot in the streets. Conflict hadn’t escalated this rapidly in Nantai since the Ryū Wars more than five ages past.

The people need a new imperial leader. Mairynne’s soul yearns for many things, but she never wished for the duty her Father assigned.

She carries two soul stones, one cold and the other hot. They came to her with the loss of each parent. They call to her, beckoning her to leave home. They reinforce her convictions . . . Her father lives. He will return to his seat upon the Serpentine Throne.

But first, she must answer the call.

If you enjoy epic fantasy somewhere between N.K. Jemisin, Jacqueline Carey, and a little Sara J. Maas, this is the series for you.

April 20 – Nothing Good Gets Away

by Meredith R. Stoddard

What would you sacrifice for the people you love?
Sarah and Dermot are determined to put the Stuarts’ ambitious schemes behind them, and start a new life. They’re even willing to give up their families and careers. But getting out of Scotland isn’t going to be easy. There are obstacles all around them. The Stuarts have money, power and a private security force. More than that they have the scheming mind of Walter Stuart, who means to see his nephew leading an independent Scotland with Sarah by his side.
When their escape plan goes awry Sarah gambles their future on a theory she has. One that could upend all the Stuart plans. To test her theory the Stuarts agree to let her people decide using the way that they have done matchmaking for countless generations. The Nine are willing to oblige her, but the results raise more questions than they answer.
Dermot is desperate to declare independence from the Stuarts. Their agenda has governed too much of his life for too long. The more he tries to escape, the deeper into their web he is pulled. When the Auld Folk fail to provide the answer he and Sarah are looking for, he begins to doubt everything and everyone, even Sarah.
On her own and out of options Sarah must decide how she can protect herself and the people she loves.

April 30 – The Wordmage’s Tales, The Artist & His Muse

by Astrid V.J.

It is dawn. One man stands upon a ladder, putting the final touches on his greatest work, smiling at the addition of a woman, huddled in a red cloak. With a flourish, he makes the last stroke of his brush and steps down to admire his masterpiece. The character he added draws the eye into the world of trees and hills. It is perfect and he knows his career is made.

He glances around but the woman who inspired perfection isn’t there. Only a folded red cloak rests on the rock where she sat earlier. Picking up the cold fabric, the artist sighs. He must find her because he knows his life, and his creativity, will never be complete without the mysterious woman’s presence. But first, he must meet a duke and receive his reward for achieving the impossible.

The Artist and His Muse is one of The Wordmage’s Tales, accompanying The Apprentice Storyteller. The apprentice has learned from master storyteller, Viola Alerion, and now he performs these classic tales from the Haldrian Empire in his own right.
